Our Story

From a single climb to a two-decade commitment — how one mountain gave rise to a movement.

How It Began

A mountain.
A mission. Twenty years.

In 2006, we set out to address the critical needs of African communities by focusing on health, education, and conservation. To raise funding and awareness, we embarked on a climb of Mt. Kilimanjaro — the tallest mountain on the African continent at 19,340 feet. To our delight, we reached the peak — and the March to the Top Foundation was born.

A decade later, we celebrated that milestone with a climb of Mt. Kenya (16,400 feet) in August 2016. Between summits, we’ve continued to push our limits through 29029 Everesting, a challenge where participants climb the equivalent height of Mt. Everest in 36 hours. With every summit, we carried not just our own ambitions, but the hopes of the communities we serve.

Now, as we approach our 20th anniversary, we are returning to where it all began, Mt. Kilimanjaro. This milestone climb is more than a celebration of two decades of impact. It is a renewed call to action, a reminder of why we first set foot on that mountain, and a declaration that our work is far from over.

Local leadership lasts.

We invest in Kenyan institutions and people, not outside solutions. Every partnership is built on local knowledge, local trust, and local ownership.

Long-term commitment matters.

We return to the same communities year after year. The depth of a relationship — not the size of a single donation — is what creates lasting change.

100% to the communities we serve.

The March Family Foundation covers all administrative and overhead costs. Every dollar donated reaches the people and ecosystems of Africa directly.

Outcomes over optics.

We define success by measurable impact – vulnerable children receiving HIV care, communities educated, wild places protected – not how we frame our work.

A Note from Our Founder

Words cannot fully capture the humanity we experience when meeting the people whose lives are touched by March to the Top. These moments are a powerful reminder of why this work matters — and of the shared responsibility we have to care for one another. Your support makes these connections possible and allows us to build lasting relationships with our partners and the communities we serve.

We are deeply grateful for the generosity of our donors. That trust is something we take seriously. We are committed to ensuring that 100% of your support goes directly to March to the Top projects helping those in need, with all administrative and overhead costs covered separately.
