New Dandora Video!

“No mother should risk her life when bringing a child into this earth, they deserve to be brought into this world with dignity and… a real chance to survive.”  states Joy Nguta, Project Officer at the Dandora Visitation and Maternal-Child Health Center.

According to the United Nations, the current most dangerous place to give birth in the world is Kenya. And in Dandora, a suburb located just outside of the capital city Nairobi, this danger is most evidently present; 5500 women die annually due to pregnancy related complications and 1 in 26 Kenyan babies do not live past their first birthday. But this is all changing with the development of the Dandora Visitation and Maternal-Child Health Center! The new facility, which March to the Top collaborated with St. Monica’s Parish, the Holy Cross Parish in Dandora, The Tabit family, and the University of Notre Dame’s Ford Program to develop was built in response to the “Dandora Human Development Study”.  This study was funded by March to the Top and instituted by the Holy Cross Parish and sought to provide research and development to an area in which the people of the community believed was the most in need of improvement. The new facility provides advanced delivery technologies, pre- and post-birth care, staff training facilities, maternal counseling programs, two pediatric wards, and a dental clinic, all of which will be equally accessible to the entire community of Dandora.

The people of Dandora now no longer fear for the lives of their future generations, but can once again appreciate the gift of giving life.

“This changes the quality of people’s lives, and Dandora will never be the same again.” – Andrew Massawe, Pastor at Holy Cross Catholic Church
